Main Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis

The denotation in this picture is the famous musicians P Diddy, Rick Ross and Janelle Monae. The two gentlemen are standing looking towards the camera with glasses on in black suits showing that they are the bosses of their game, looking fearless and courageous whilst Janelle Monae is standing behind them showing that they protect her. The meaning behind this is to show that they are great at what they are doing and no one should dare to oppose them, they enjoy it by getting what they need to make them look big.

The costume that is being presented is a high class look. This shows that they have money and they are big people in society and knowing their position, they are classed as big people in society, the watch, ring and grills (braces in Diddy's mouth) are expensive these days, to get these items you would need money. The suits make them look well presented and luxurious.

The lighting in this picture is high key, but the colour is dull, which battles each other to make it stand out and find it appealing. I think this is shown like this to show that they have their ups and donws and they are not to messed around with. They can be nice people, have a fun lifestyle, but push there buttons and you see the darkside of them. Just because they have the serious stereotypical high class look doesn't mean they don't have time for the public. They make music for us to enjoy.

There isn't a setting for this piece and the reason may be that because they are global superstars, they are not just in one current location, they are always on the move so they will get known all over, and judging by this it has worked. The reason that there is no setting for this piece could be also that they can work or be around any type of conditions and still be all right or have their boss attitude towards the situation that they have faced.

The NVC (Non Verbal Communication) in this picture is the three beings standing, facing the camera with a serious face with a strong back bone posture. This shows the reader that these people are strong, brave and fearless people as they are staring straight at the camera. Also they have a lot of money and are well groomed. I get this from when it shows me that they are in suits all dressed up smart and proper, with jewellery on them i.e, rings and chains. This shows they are very serious and well respected people because they are known and have respect and get money from what they do as a career.

Masthead: It has a logo. The Logo is clear and bold. Some of the letters may be hidden in certain parts but this shows that it is a serious issue or as i would like to call it, a "bad boy" issue showing the big "bad boy" stars. Makes the reader feel that this issue will be an interesting or amazing issue to read.

Dateline: It has a dateline so you don't feel old when reading this. for example, if it was made 2 years ago, you would know it isn't a recent update from now, you and the reader will understand it was concerning the people in those times. This makes it a lot easier for the readers and us to differintiate the time from then to the time now.

Main Image: it has a main image. The main image is the infamous music stars P Diddy, Rick Ross and Janelle Monae looking serious and dressed appropriately. This symbolises that they are big people and respected people because the camera shot is slowly below eye level. Shows that they are down and ready for business and don't waste with what ever faces them. it also shows that thye are protecting the female (Janelle Monae) this is important because that's the expectations of a man, to look after a woman.

Coverlines: used to show other stories or importnant information that the magazine issue has to offer, like a quick contents page on the front page for the readers. this contributes into making the reader want to buy the magazine issue
